Best Locations for Capturing Amsterdam's Canals

Finding great spots for travel photos in Amsterdam can be quite the task, given how beautiful the city is. The canals offer lovely reflections and unique architecture, but some spots are definitely more photogenic than others. I’m planning a trip soon and would love to hear your recommendations.

I’ve seen popular places like Magere Brug and the Nine Streets mentioned frequently, but I’m on the lookout for those hidden gems that can give a more authentic Amsterdam vibe without the tourist crowds. Are there any lesser-known neighborhoods or canals that you think are worth checking out?

What are your favorite locations for snapping those perfect canal shots? Also, do you have any tips for avoiding the usual touristy angles? I’d love to know the best times of day for lighting, too!

Try the canal near Westerpark! It’s got this chill vibe and fewer tourists, plus the reflections in the water at sunrise are amazing. Also, take a stroll around the Haarlemmerstraat area—lots of cool old buildings and less crowded spots for photos. Late afternoon is usually great for that golden light, too!

Check out the canals around the Jordaan neighborhood—way less crowded and super picturesque. Also, the little bridges near the Anne Frank House are cool for unique angles. Early morning is great for soft light, plus fewer people!
