Choosing the Best Luggage for European Train Journeys

Traveling by train in Europe can be a wonderful experience, but having the right luggage is essential for a smooth trip. With limited storage space on trains and busy stations to navigate, a lightweight and durable suitcase or a functional backpack can make all the difference. Look for options with sturdy wheels and comfortable handles to help you manage stairs and uneven sidewalks with ease.

From my experience, a 20- to 22-inch carry-on suitcase is ideal. It’s spacious enough for a week’s worth of essentials yet compact enough to fit in most overhead compartments. If you’re more of a backpack person, consider one with multiple compartments so you can easily access your travel documents and snacks without having to dig around.

Think about your itinerary as well. If you’ll be exploring hilly areas or cobblestone streets, a backpack might be more practical than a rolling suitcase. And don’t forget a luggage tag with your contact information, just in case your bag goes missing.

What type of luggage do you find most convenient for train travel? Have you had any memorable experiences with your bags while exploring Europe?
