Do I Need a Tour Agency for Exploring London as an Expat?

As an expat in London, figuring out how to explore the city can be quite a task. There are so many famous landmarks and hidden gems that it can feel a bit overwhelming. Some people swear by tour agencies for a smoother experience, while others enjoy the freedom of exploring on their own.

On the one hand, a tour agency can offer valuable insights and access to spots you might miss on your own. On the other hand, I’m curious if using one takes away the spontaneous fun of travel. For someone who loves balancing the famous sights with quieter areas, is it really worth the cost of a tour, or should I just create my own itinerary?

Have any of you used a tour agency for your London adventures? Did it improve your experience, or did you find more joy in exploring independently?

I did a mix when I was there last year. The tours were nice for the big spots like the Tower of London, but wandering around neighborhoods like Shoreditch or Notting Hill on my own was where I found the cool street art and little cafes. Definitely worth it to balance both!

I’ve been in London for a bit, and honestly, a mix works best. Some of the tours gave me cool insights I wouldn’t have found solo, like those hidden cafes in Soho. But then just wandering around places like Camden or Shoreditch is when I had the most fun. It really depends on what vibe you’re going for!
