How do you select photography spots in France?

Planning a photography trip to France is thrilling, yet the abundance of beautiful locations can be a bit overwhelming. For those of us focused on capturing landscapes, historical sites, and lively street scenes, how do you choose where to go? Do you focus on specific cities or regions depending on the type of photos you want to take?

I’ve been drawn to the vibrant lavender fields in Provence for their stunning colors, but I also love the enchanting charm of Mont Saint-Michel. Each destination has its own appeal, making it tough to decide between the iconic landmarks and the hidden gems.

What methods do you use to pick your photography destinations in France? Are there particular strategies or resources that you’ve found helpful in making these choices?

For photography, I usually check local photography groups on social media for tips and hidden spots. Google Earth is great too for scouting locations ahead of time. The golden hour light in places like the lavender fields or Mont Saint-Michel is unreal, so timing is key!

I usually look at Instagram or photography blogs for inspiration. The lavender fields in Provence are definitely a must, but I found some amazing off-the-beaten-path villages near there too. Sometimes just wandering around a town for an hour leads to the best shots!
