Thinking about a solo trip to Malta? Many travelers have shared mixed feelings about safety, especially for women traveling alone. It would be helpful to hear from anyone who has been there recently.

What were your experiences like in various neighborhoods? Were there areas that felt particularly safe or unsafe during the day or at night? Also, any tips for enjoying the local food scene while staying safe would be appreciated. Looking forward to your insights!

I was in Malta solo last year, and honestly, I felt pretty safe overall. Valletta and Mdina were super welcoming even at night, but I’d avoid some quieter areas of St. Julian’s after dark. For food, definitely hit up the local markets during the day; the vibe is lively and it feels safer with more people around.

I just got back from Malta and felt pretty safe overall! Valletta and St. Julian’s were great at night with lots of people around. As for food, I loved the local markets during the day, but I’d stick to well-lit areas after dark. Just keep your stuff close and stay aware of your surroundings!
