Is luxury sleeper train travel in the USA really worth it?

Has anyone here thought about taking a trip across the USA by train? The concept of luxury train travel with sleeper cars sounds enticing, but I’m wondering if it’s really worth the money. These journeys promise comfort and breathtaking views, which is perfect for someone who loves to explore like I do. But, let’s be real—the prices can be pretty steep when you compare them to flying or driving.

I’m especially interested in hearing about experiences on routes like the California Zephyr or the Rocky Mountaineer. Were the amenities and service exceptional? Did you find that the journey offered something special beyond just transportation? How does it stack up against staying in a nice hotel during a regular road trip?

What are your thoughts? Have you traveled on luxury sleeper trains in the USA, and was it worth the extra cost?

I tried the California Zephyr last year and it was pretty amazing! The scenery during the day was stunning, way nicer than just driving, and the service was top-notch. But yeah, it definitely costs way more than a hotel stay. If the views and vibe matter to you, it could be worth it!

The California Zephyr is definitely a unique experience! The views through the Rockies are mind-blowing, and you get to chill in style. But honestly, if you’re a hotel lover, you might find the amenities aren’t that different from a nice place on the road. Just make sure to pack some snacks; the food on the train can be hit or miss!
