Tips for Traveling with Family in London

Planning a family trip to London can be a bit daunting with so many attractions to explore. It’s a challenge to find a balance between must-see spots like the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace, and more tranquil areas like the Kyoto Garden in Holland Park. How can you create an itinerary that keeps both kids and adults engaged?

Transport and accommodation are major concerns for families, too. Is it better to navigate the city using the Tube or buses? And should you prioritize staying in a central location, or is it worth venturing farther out for a larger space at a better price? Given London’s vastness and endless activities, what strategies have worked well for you?

Have you found any hidden gems that are great for children? How do you manage to balance sightseeing with some downtime during your family travels?

Honestly, I think staying a bit outside the city can be worth it if you find a good place with more space. The Tube is great for getting around quickly, but buses can be nice for kids since they can see more of the city. As for hidden gems, we loved the Diana Memorial Playground—it’s such a hit with kids and lets them burn off some energy!

One thing that worked for us was scheduling downtime in the parks. Like, after a busy morning, we’d hit up Hampstead Heath. It was a nice break for the kids, plus they could run around. As for transport, the Tube’s fast but can be a hassle with strollers. We found buses easier, especially with little ones.
