Train travel time from Milan to Lake Garda?

What’s the typical train travel time between Milan and Lake Garda? I’ve heard it can vary quite a bit based on whether you take a direct train or have to make transfers. For those who have made this journey recently, how long did it take you?

Are there specific train services you’d recommend for a budget-friendly yet quick trip? Any advice on booking in advance or snagging the best prices would also be really helpful. How was your overall experience on this route?

I took a train from Milan to Desenzano last summer, and it was around 1.5 hours with no transfers. I went with Trenitalia, and booking in advance definitely helped me save some cash. Just keep an eye on the schedule, as the Regionale trains can take a bit longer!

It usually takes about 1.5 to 2 hours if you catch a direct train, but transfers can really stretch that time. I’ve used Trenitalia’s regional trains, which are pretty affordable, just book a few days ahead for better prices. The ride through the countryside is pretty scenic, so it’s worth it!
