What are your tips for planning family travel?

Planning a family trip can be overwhelming, especially when you have to accommodate different interests and age groups. For example, you might be eager to dive into the local food scene in Australia, while the kids might prefer fun activities and attractions. Finding a balance between your plans and their needs can be a challenge!

One effective tip is to involve everyone in the planning process. When everyone has a say in what they want to see and do, it can make the trip more enjoyable for all. It’s also a good idea to mix popular tourist attractions with some lesser-known spots to keep things interesting. Remember to schedule some downtime between activities to avoid burnout.

One thing that worked for us is creating a shared itinerary on Google Docs. Everyone can add their must-see spots, and it’s easy to adjust stuff on the fly. Also, we always try to book accommodations with kitchenettes to save money and eat healthier while traveling!

Involving everyone is great, but honestly, sometimes kids just want to be kids and have fun. I found that picking one “must-do” activity for each day works better than trying to cater to everyone, plus you can fit in some casual stuff around it. Also, keeping an eye on weather can really save a day—no point in planning an outdoor adventure if it’s gonna rain!
