What should I pack for a 10-day trip to Iceland?

I’m gearing up for a 10-day adventure in Iceland, and I’m feeling a mix of excitement and a little stress about packing. The weather there is so unpredictable, so I’m not sure what to bring. I want to be ready for everything from sunny skies to unexpected snow flurries. With all the hiking and sightseeing planned, I need to find a way to pack light while still having everything I might need.

I’ve come across various tips online, but many of them feel pretty generic. I know layering is crucial, but how many pairs of thermal leggings should I really pack? Should I splurge on a high-quality waterproof jacket, or are there decent budget-friendly options? Also, I’m looking to make the most of some local experiences, so any advice on packing for that would be appreciated.

What are your must-have items when you travel to Iceland? Is there anything you brought that you ended up not using?

For Iceland, definitely bring a solid waterproof jacket; I splurged on one last year and it was a game-changer. I packed three pairs of thermal leggings and found that was enough for layering and washing. Oh, and don’t forget a good hat and gloves—you’ll want them for those chilly hikes!

You definitely don’t need more than two pairs of thermal leggings unless you’re planning to get really sweaty on hikes. A decent waterproof jacket is key, but I’ve found some good budget options on outdoor clearance sites, so it’s worth hunting around. Also, don’t forget a swimsuit for those hot springs! You might end up using things you didn’t expect, like a windbreaker for those crazy gusts.
