What should I pack for trekking in Iceland?

Excited about my upcoming trekking trip to Iceland, but I’m a bit overwhelmed with packing. The weather can be so unpredictable and the terrain is pretty rugged. How do you approach packing for a trek there? Do you follow a strict list, or do you adjust it based on the trails you plan to hike?

I’ve heard that layering is essential for staying comfortable, but I’m also wondering about footwear. Is it worth investing in specialized trekking boots, or can I get by with good hiking shoes? I’m trying to find a balance between packing light and ensuring I have everything I need. What gear items have you found are must-haves for a successful trek in Iceland?

I’d love to hear your packing strategies! What essentials do you always make sure to bring?

You definitely want to prioritize good trekking boots over regular hiking shoes. Trust me, I thought I could get away with my old pair, but my feet were killing me by the end of the first day! Layers are super important, too, so don’t forget a waterproof jacket. Just make sure you can mix and match your gear; it makes packing way easier.

I just got back from Iceland last month, and layering was a game-changer! I stuck to a good base layer and a waterproof shell. For footwear, I went with solid hiking boots—definitely worth it for the uneven trails. Also, don’t forget a beanie and gloves; they saved me from the chill!
