What's the best 3-day itinerary for Yosemite first-timers?

With so many stunning sights and trails in Yosemite, planning a three-day itinerary can feel daunting. Some friends have suggested hitting the major attractions, while others encourage exploring off-the-beaten-path locations.

I’m hoping to find a good mix of iconic spots like El Capitan and Half Dome, but I’d also love to include some lesser-known trails if time allows. For those who have visited, what itinerary has worked best for you? Any must-see sites or hidden gems that made your trip unforgettable?

Have you found a specific order of attractions that enhances the overall experience? I’m eager to hear your recommendations!

When I went, we started with Yosemite Valley to hit up El Capitan and Bridalveil Fall right away. Then we did the Mist Trail to Vernal Fall, which was awesome but definitely a workout. For something quieter, check out the Tuolumne Meadows area; it’s stunning and way less crowded! Just make sure to grab a good map, some trails can sneak up on you.

You might find that starting early at Glacier Point for sunrise is awesome, but it does get crowded. I’d skip some of the major overlooks if you want to hit a few hidden gems—check out Sentinel Dome for killer views without the crowds. It’s a pretty quick hike and still feels epic!
