What's the best luggage for train travel in Europe?

Traveling by train across Europe is an amazing experience, but picking the right luggage can be tricky. You want something that’s lightweight yet spacious enough to hold all your photography gear, especially since train overhead compartments can be pretty limited.

I’ve been exploring various options and would love to hear your thoughts. Suitcases can often be cumbersome, while backpacks may not offer enough protection for delicate equipment. Have any of you discovered specific brands or styles that offer the perfect mix of functionality and durability?

What features do you think are must-haves for train travel in Europe? Any recommendations for lightweight but sturdy luggage options?

I’ve found that soft-sided duffel bags work pretty well for train travel. They’re flexible enough to squeeze into tight spaces but still give decent protection for gear. Just make sure to get one with a good shoulder strap, so it’s easier to carry around the stations.

I’ve had good luck with the Osprey travel packs. They’re super lightweight and have great organization for gear, plus they fit in those overhead bins easily. You might also want to look for ones with padded compartments for your camera to keep it safe. Definitely try them on in-store if you can!
