When is the best time for a safari in Tanzania?

Planning a safari in Tanzania can be quite a task, especially since different seasons can significantly affect wildlife sightings and weather. I’ve traveled quite a bit, and I’m trying to find the best time to visit for a trip that balances activity and comfort. I know the dry season from June to October is a popular choice, but I’m curious about the shoulder months like May and November. Could they also offer good wildlife viewing without the large crowds?

Has anyone here experienced a safari during different times of the year? I’m particularly interested in how the Great Migration impacts safari plans. Are there certain months where you noticed more wildlife activity, or is it fairly consistent throughout the dry season? Any thoughts on how the weather influenced your experience would also be great to hear!

I went on a safari in late May, and it was awesome! The weather was mild, and there were way fewer crowds. We still saw a lot of animals, plus the landscape was super lush, which made for some great photos. The Great Migration was starting to pick up too, so I’d say it’s definitely worth considering those shoulder months!

I’ve been in May and it was surprisingly awesome! Fewer crowds and still lots of animals around. The weather was a bit unpredictable with some rain, but it made for great scenery and the wildlife was definitely active. I think those shoulder months can be a hidden gem if you’re okay with a little variability.
